How do I know if I need emergency dental care?

It can be tough to know whether to wait out a dental problem until the next business day or head to the nearest 24-hour emergency dentist. Some issues, such as a knocked out tooth, must be seen about immediately. But other problems are less clear.

In general, you should listen to your body. Do you have a fever? Are you in intense pain? Is there significant swelling? These can be signs of an infection that could worsen if you wait. On the other hand, if you lost a filling or chipped a tooth, but are in no distress, it is probably safe to wait a day or two. Of course, there is nothing wrong with simply erring on the side of caution and seeing the dentist immediately.
